What’s With All the Fruit?

Blueberry in your beer? Pineapple in your BBQ? You might be wondering what’s the story!

Well, way back when 12 Bones first fired up the smokers in 2005, our original owner, Tom Montgomery, made a bold move with two signature rib flavors: the sweet and savory Blueberry Chipotle (with just a hint of heat) and the more daringly delicious Pineapple Habanero (sweet with a serious kick!). Turns out that Blueberry Chipotle was a star – it even won Good Morning America’s Best Bite Challenge thanks to a surprise nomination back in 2007. Pretty cool, right?

Fast forward to 2019, when current owners Angela and Bryan opened our brewery. They loved the way those fruity flavors popped in our BBQ and decided to bring that same inspiration to our craft beers. One of our first brews was “Mixtape Flashback,” a blueberry-infused hefeweizen that quickly became a fan favorite, just like those ribs.

Never ones to shy away from a good fruit pairing, we also set our sights on the perfect pineapple beer. Our popular west coast IPA, Coastin’, seemed like the ideal starting point. We experimented in our small-batch fermenters and landed on “Night to Rewind,” a juicy and refreshing pineapple IPA (are you picking up on our little cassette tape theme?).

You can currently find “Mixtape Flashback” pouring in the taproom, and “Night to Rewind” is chilling in cans in our To-Go cooler (it’ll be on draft soon too!).
